Kern Special Education Residency Pathway

Overview

Residency Information Session:
October 1, 2024 at 3:30pm

Preliminary Credential

The Preliminary Mild to Moderate Support Needs (MMSN) and Extensive Support Needs (ESN) Education Specialist Program is accredited by  the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). The Preliminary Program prepares candidates for a career in teaching TK-12 students who have mild to moderate (MMSN) or extensive support needs (ESN) and receive special education services.

Program Design

Every candidate's individualized program includes 38 semester units of coursework in general education and in special education that are completed in one academic year. Candidates choose either the MMSN or ESN program.

Residency Model

The teacher residency programs at 糖心Vlog视频, Bakersfield provide residents with a co-teaching apprenticeship for a full academic year (minimum of 3 days per week). Credential program coursework is co-constructed with university faculty and district leaders and is delivered at school sites in a cohort model. University and district leaders work collaboratively to establish criteria for joint selection of placement sites, mentors, and residents. The teacher residency programs provide financial support to residents that may be used for tuition and/or living expenses, and residency mentors are also financially compensated. Residents commit to teach in the district if they are offered a teaching position. The Residency Model program is available at the Bakersfield campus.
