Freshmen And Continuing Students

The information presented below supplements (but does not replace) regular meetings with your faculty advisor. If you need a faculty advisor assigned to you, please contact Yolanda Moreno.

If your answer is "No," you need to meet with Yolanda Moreno, designated Math advisor at the Student Advising and Success Center.

To schedule an appointment at the Student Advising and Success Center with Yolanda Moreno, please access .

If your answer is "Yes," you need to meet with your faculty advisor.

Major Requirements

Core Requirements for All Concentrations:

• MATH 2222, MATH 2510, MATH 2520, MATH 2610, MATH 3000, MATH 3200, and MATH 3520.

• Completion of GWAR (Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement) before MATH 4908/4918.

 


 

1. Applied Mathematics Concentration

• MATH 2531 and MATH 2532 or MATH 2533

• MATH 2540, MATH 3300, MATH 3500, MATH 3620, MATH 4610, and MATH 4908

• One additional course from: MATH 3310, MATH 4300, or MATH 4500.

 


 

2. Pure Mathematics Concentration

• MATH 2531 and MATH 2530 or MATH 2533

• MATH 3400, MATH 3500, MATH 3620, MATH 4600, MATH 4610, and MATH 4908

• One additional course from: MATH 4520 or MATH 4620.

 


 

3. Statistics Concentration

• MATH 2531 and MATH 2532 or MATH 2533

• MATH 2200, MATH 3210, MATH 3620, MATH 4200, MATH 4210, MATH 4220, and MATH 4908.

 


 

4. Teaching Mathematics Concentration

• MATH 2531 or MATH 2533

• MATH 3100, MATH 3310, MATH 3400, MATH 3600, MATH 4110, MATH 4120, MATH 4200, and MATH 4918.

Minor - Applied Math

Applied Mathematics Minor Requirements

• 15 total units in mathematics, 8 of which must be upper division.

• Lower division courses that may count: MATH 2020, 2320, 2520, 2533, 2540, 2610.

• Upper division courses that may count: MATH 3200, 3300, 3500, 4500 (excluding MATH 3120).

• Only one of the selected courses can count towards the student’s major.

• At least 8 upper division units must be completed at ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓÆµ.

Minor - Mathematics

Mathematics Minor Requirements

• 15 total units in mathematics, 8 of which must be upper division.

• Lower division courses that may count: MATH 2010, 2020, 2310, 2320, 2510, 2520, 2530 (2533), 2540, 2610.

• Upper division courses that may NOT count: MATH 3110, 3120.

• Courses selected cannot count toward the student’s major.

• At least 8 upper division units must be completed at ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓÆµ

Minor - Applied Statistics

Applied Statistics Minor Requirements

• 15 total units in mathematics, 8 of which must be upper division.

• Lower division courses that may count: MATH 2020, 2320, 2520, 2533, 2540, 2610.

• Upper division courses that may count: MATH 3200, 3300, 3500, 4500 (excluding MATH 3120).

• Only one of the selected courses can count towards the student’s major.
