ITV Classrooms Controls

In most cases, if you are teaching an ITV class you should find that the room has been pre-configured for you. If you should find that the room is not, then this page will give you a breif overview of how to utilize the ITV controls durring your class.

Academic Technology staff highly recommends for support that you use the "IT help" speed dial function from the classroom phone. Using this speed dial will connect you directly to Academic Technology support staff.

This page covers only a small portion of the ITV Classroom interface focusing on the controls used for teaching most ITV Classes. If you have questions or would like to discuss how to accomplish teaching goals with ITV technology, we highly reccomend contacting us. Academic Technology staff will be able to assist you with any questions you have. You can reach us by or by email at servicecenter@csub.edu

Getting Started

When you arrive you should find your classroom connected and ready for you. In most cases you should only need to worry about changing the presenter camera if your teaching from a location you dont normally teach from.

Should you find that the room is powered down on your arrival, we reccomend you call the Academic Technology Support team. However, you are welcome to get started on your own.

To begin you should see the option to choose between "Smart Flex Mode" or "ITV Mode"  To get connected to your distant site classroom, please select the "ITV Mode" button to select your connected classroom.

If the classroom is powered on, but your distant site classroom is not connected, you can open the menu and select the green "Dial"  button to select your connected classroom.

Connect your Classroom

The Call Control screen or address book will display locations you can connect your room to. Tap on the room and the system will link the rooms together if they are available.

The Big box is the default location that your room normally connects to. In this example the default room is RM 123. This might be different depending on what room your in. When connecting be sure that the room you select is the second room your class is assigned to in your schedule.

Presenting and Reciving

General Controls

The principles of an ITV Connected class is similar to using popular conferencing tools like Zoom or MS Teams. At first the connection is sending video 1 to 1. As in both you and your connected person(s) are only sending 1 video to eachother. At some point someone will usually begin sharing content. At that point you video is sent in 2 to 1. What 2 to 1 means is that one person/site sending two videos out (Camera and Content) and everone else is only sending 1 video (Camera).

There are a few controls that are constistant when your sharing something or when your not. Those controls allow you to change the primary camera (think of it like what webcam your using), camera controls, and audio controls.

Presenter TogglePresenter Camera - The Presenter Camera selection is located in the upper right corner of the controller. Tapping this key will switch between the camera sendingvideo fo the instructors desk or the students in your room. For more advanced applications you can hold the button to access addtional camera devices.

Camera and Menu accessCamera Control and Menu - At times you will find that the Camera is not pointed where you need it to be. The camera control button will allow you to move the camera where you need to be. The Menu located next to the camera control will allow you to get to the camera control or end the connection.

Audio Controls Volume and Mutes - The audio controls are devided into two sections. On the left is the volume bar. Adjusting this slider will adjust the volume of the speakers in the room. This had no effect on the volume level in the connected classroom. The conencted room has thier own volume control to adjust the volume in the connected room.
On the right side there are three mutes. Main, Local Student and Distant Students

  • Main - Mutes all microphones. No sound is transmitted.
  • Local Student Mute- This button may read Bakersfield or AV depending on where you are. This mutes the microphones for the students in the room you are in.
  • Distant Student Mute - This will mute all audio being recieved.

Connected Without Sharing or While Reciving Shared Content

Whenever you are not sharing content from your room you will see the interface presented here. This includes when you are simply the reciver of content like viewing a student presnetation from remote location.

Important Controls:
Start Share - Located in the center of the screen, the big round green share button will start a "Share" with the connected classroom. Pressing this button will bring up the classroom computer to share and change the primary camera to "Instructor" to allow the connected classroom to see both the instructors desk and the shared content.
Not Sharing Control Page

Sharing Content Controls

Once you begin sharing content to the remote classroom you will be presented with a series of choices. By default the Computer will be selected. The choice selected will display on the projector screens in both classrooms.

Presentation Choices Presenation Selection - Across the center of the screen are six options. Each option with the exception of "Hide Video" has a red or green square in the upper left corner. Green indicated that a signal is present while Red indicates the device is off, asleep, or not plugged in.

Stop ShareStop Share - This stops the shared content from being sent to the connected classroom. The Presenter video will remain sending.
