Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK)

CAPK is one of Kern County's largest nonprofit 501(c) (3) corporations. Through a variety of programs and in collaboration with other human services agencies and organizations, CAPK helps low-income residents pursue their educational goals, secure and retain employment, maintain adequate housing, access medical services, obtain utility bill payment subsidies and residential weatherization assistance, counteract hunger and food insecurity, obtain child care and preschool education, and engage in personal and family development opportunities to build and achieve individual and family self-sufficiency.

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities are the first responders in helping our neighbors with food, clothing and other basic necessities regardless of age, race or beliefs. They offer rental and utility assistance, career education, CalFresh application assistance, and operate a local food pantry.

Bakersfield Homeless Center

The Bakersfield Homeless Center creates a strong safety net for homeless and at-risk families by providing a broad continuum of services which begins with basic shelter. Once crisis needs are met, programs are offered to foster self-sufficiency including educational enrichment for kids and job development programs for adults. Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault

The Alliance offers a range of services to support women and children who have been affected by domestic violence and abuse including food assistance, emergency shelter, counseling, and legal assistance. Please visit their website for a complete list of services and contact points.

FCC Broadband Benefit

Starting May 12, the Federal Communications Commission will launch a temporary program called the , which provides a discount of up to $50 per month toward broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying tribal lands. Eligible households may also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer or tablet from participating providers.

The program is limited to one monthly service discount per household.

Eligible households may enroll through a or directly with the (USAC) using an online or mail-in application.
